And another Winter Carnival year has passed!
There was an estimated 700 people that attended carnival throughout the weekend. There was over 50 events taking place such as Fishing Derbys, Snow Drags, Native Games, Public skating, Arm Wrestling, Cake decorating, Scrambles, Bingos, Community feast, Lip Syncing, Pool Tournament, Baby Zone, Bannock Bum contest, Princess & Superhero pageant, Indian Car and much, much more. Events took place within central area of Peguis community with some events in surrounding areas like Birch Lake & Robert Bear’s Field. Prize payout of approx. $15,500 was issued out to participants that entered and enjoyed the contests, derby’s, games and tournaments. There was over 20 community volunteer supervisors, 8 community based programs, associations & clubs along with Leadership Chief and Council that took charge in making this years winter carnival events happen. An average of 13 event staff per day assisted in the safety and operations for the winter carnival weekend. Funders for this year were Peguis Surrender Trust, Peguis Gaming Commission, Peguis Development Corporation, Peguis Child & Family Services and Peguis Home & Community Care.
Winter Carnival wouldn’t have happened without the support from the volunteers, community programs, associations, clubs, leadership & funders – Thank you to everyone involved and look forward to working together again next year.
