Vision

Challenging and Shaping the Future

Mission

Promoting, planning, and developing Peguis First Nation with a sound economic development strategy.

About

Peguis Development Corporation was established in 1984 in response to the growing need for a service organization to carry the specific mandate of delivering the Economic Development program for the Peguis First Nation community. From the beginning, the community leaders believed that incorporating a sound economic development strategy was a key to a solid economic base. The PDC is primarily concerned with creating a soild economic base for Peguis First Nation. It is estimated that 60% of the overall Aboriginal population is under 30 years of age. This represents an important and growing pool of potential business owners and employees.

PDC believes that job creation is a significant and consistent result of business development and that business performance is refined with higher education of the owners. Therefore, encouraging skills, development and entrepreneurship in Aboriginal youth is essential.

PDC believes that a sound economic development strategy incorporates accessing state-of-the-art technology, developing community human resources, and the local labor market base to its full potential. Developing working relationships with local organizations and businesses, intergovernmental agencies and outside business groups is also essential. The sharing of resources for training initiatives and community projects is important for providing more accessible market opportunities.

Since it's origination, the Peguis Development Corporation has continued to be actively involved in the pursuit of greater economic development projects and the economic growth of the community as a whole. Hard work, a consitent focus on the future, and leadership support and guidance has seen the community evolve from five businesses in 1981 to seventy-five businesses in 2008. In addition, PDC has been employed as project managers for other major projects wuch as: the Peguis Community Hall, Peguis Mall, Senior Home, Daycare, Family Head Start, Single and Family Apartment Complexes, and the New School Project, which have all greatly contributed to an improved standard of living for Peguis First Nation people.
